Contact // one mailbox, read by a person
There is one address and no form
Everything reaches hello@ailaw.im. No form, no chat widget and no telephone number appear anywhere on this site. A single mailbox, opened by a person, is the whole apparatus, and the subject lines below decide which clock your message runs on.
1What to put in the subject line
One mailbox works only if messages can be sorted. These subject lines are the ones the privacy policy and the terms refer to, so using them puts your message on the right clock.
| If you are writing about | Subject line | Response |
|---|---|---|
| Seeing what is held about you | Privacy request | Answered inside 30 days |
| Putting right what is held about you | Privacy request | Answered inside 30 days |
| Having all of it removed | Delete my data | Completed inside 30 days |
| Complaining about how any of it was handled | Privacy complaint | First reply inside 5 business days; determination inside 30 days |
| A suspected security problem, here or in the mail | Security | Same or next business day |
| A practice bringing one precedent folder, or describing how it finds a clause now | Precedent folder | Inside 5 business days |
| Press, or a question about anything published here | Anything sensible | Inside 5 business days |
2Please do not send us client documents
Important // unsolicited material is destroyed
This is the one request worth making loudly. Do not attach an executed contract, a client file, a matter number or anything covered by legal professional privilege to an email to this company. There is nothing here to run it through, and we do not want it.
Unsolicited personal information engages Australian Privacy Principle 4, and the material is destroyed once we conclude that Australian Privacy Principle 3 would not have let us collect it. What that means in practice: the attachment leaves the mailbox, and your question is answered without it. Clause 7 of the privacy policy carries the procedure step by step.
Describe the folder in words instead: how many documents, what shape they are in, and the question you keep asking of them. That is enough for every conversation worth having, and it is how the useful ones start.

4Service of documents
No postal address appears anywhere on this site. Australian law obliges a company to give its name and ACN on public documents, and both sit on every page here; publishing the registered office online is not part of that obligation.
Where a document must be served, ASIC holds the company's registered office against ACN 698 421 608, and service is properly effected at the office that register shows. The register is authoritative, and it keeps pace when the company moves.
5What writing to us does not do
- It does not subscribe you to a mailing list. There is no list. The company has never sent a marketing email and, if it ever does, it will be opt in with the consent recorded.
- It does not create a lawyer and client relationship, because we are not lawyers and cannot create one.
- It does not create a contract for the supply of anything. Supply rests on a separate written agreement, as clause 6 of the terms sets out.
- It does not hand your address to anybody else. Nothing is passed to a third party for marketing, and there is no marketing to pass it to.
Mail is retained while a conversation is open and for a period afterwards, as set out in the retention section of the privacy policy. You can ask us to delete a thread at any time and we will, subject only to anything we are required by law to keep.
